Operating since October 2004, the award winning Fiordland Cinema is located next door to The Black Dog Bar. The cinema was specially constructed to house regular screenings of the locally filmed movie Ata Whenua- Shadowland (also known as Fiordland on Film).
Cinema Experience
The large curved screen and state of the art 7.1 Dolby surround sound make viewing this spectacular cinematic experience of Fiordland a theatre experience to remember.
In addition to the daily screenings of Ata Whenua – Shadowland, the cinema also has daily showings of new mainstream movies and art house releases.

Stick with the traditional popcorn and ice-cream, or indulge in a glass of our own Fiordland wine or beer to enjoy during the movie from one of our wide, comfortable seats (including individual side table). The stylish Black Dog Bar boasts an impressive local wine list and a cosy open fire to be enjoyed before and after the movies. An asset to the township of Te Anau, our beautiful cinema is available for hire by arrangement.
